Even being geographically distant (Denmark – Brazil), Morten Haxholm’s music has influenced the guitarist’s writing deeply since the first listen. Putting both musicians tunes side by side will not only be a display of contemporary jazz composition, but also a way to listen how two different cultures and backgrounds shape the current chamber jazz aesthetic. This Artist in Residence concert with Morten Haxholm alongside the Lucas Brum Quintet will shed light on the energetic and complex, yet beautiful jazz composition of the 21st century.

Morten Haxholm is an upcoming Danish bass player, but he has already established himself on the Danish and international jazz scene: Graduated in 2013 from the prestigious “soloist” class education (7 years) at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen (RMC), and with seven albums in his own name and several tours with his own bands (and as a sideman) in Denmark (and Europe as well), he has emerged on the music scene as a new composer and bass player to be reckoned with. Morten Haxholm is engaged in countless Danish jazz, pop and rock projects as a sideman, has an active work as a composer, and has played with countless Danish musicians: Jesper Løvdal, Claus Waidtløw, Søren Møller, Bob Rockwell, Jakob Højer, Mads LaCour and recorded (and played several tours) with international names like Lage Lund, Gilad Hekselman, Lionel Loueke, Melissa Aldana, Seamus Blake, John Escreet, Jonathan Kreisberg and Ari Hoenig.

Lucas Brum is a Brazilian guitarist, composer and music engraver. He leads his quintets (Brazilian and European casts), the Lucas Brum Big Band and takes part in Lummi (winner band of “Novos Talentos do Jazz 2021”, Savassi Festival’s young jazz musician competition). In 2018, he has won the “III Concurso de Composição Erudita Gramado in Concert”, a classical composition competition. As a music engraver, he has edited sheet music for Germany, Brazil, the USA, France and did the engravings for Kiko Freitas’ “The Brazilian Groove Book: Samba & Bossa Nova”, published by Hudson Music.
