Increasingly clothing and household textiles can be found scattered across the streets of Berlin. Discarded and left to the elements, these items are left to deteriorate, even though they still contain value and can very likely still be worn.

In Berlin alone, 67,000 tonnes of textiles are disposed of yearly, with half of this – around 33,500 tonnes – incinerated. This means that textiles are being incinerated before being given the chance to circulate through the loops of the Circular Economy. These loops recover the most value from the textiles and save on resources needed to create new products. And not to forget the social aspect of providing clothing and warmth to those in our community who are in need.

Textile Journeys are a series of 6 events where we deep dive into Berlin's discarded textiles. Each event will also get hands-on with a specific circular textile topic (see below) and a related KNOWLEDGE page will be released on the The A-Gain Guide, a platform which maps out the textile-reuse services and stakeholders in Berlin - otherwise known as #textilretters! Each KNOWLEDGE page coallates a selection of tips, tricks and resources on a circular textile topic, and answering a few questions on the GUIDE fuction will help you find a personalised solution for your textiles.

The Journeys were developed together with our partner, STREETWARE Saved Item – a Berlin based NGO who have been organising their own textile activism performances and events, such as the STREET-shopping tour, since early 2021.

Each of the events on the series lasts around 4 hours including a short break.

Some snacks & drinks are also provided.

Immer häufiger findet man in den Straßen Berlins verstreut Kleidung und Heimtextilien. Ausrangiert und der Witterung überlassen, verfallen diese Gegenstände, obwohl sie noch einen Wert haben und sehr wahrscheinlich noch getragen werden können.

Allein in Berlin werden jährlich 67.000 Tonnen Textilien entsorgt, wovon die Hälfte - etwa 33.500 Tonnen - verbrannt wird. Das bedeutet, dass Textilien verbrannt werden, bevor sie die Chance haben, die Kreisläufe der Kreislaufwirtschaft zu durchlaufen. In diesen Kreisläufen wird der größte Teil des Wertes der Textilien wiedergewonnen und es werden Ressourcen eingespart, die für die Herstellung neuer Produkte benötigt werden. Und nicht zu vergessen ist der soziale Aspekt der Bereitstellung von Kleidung und Wärme für Bedürftige in unserer Gemeinschaft.

Textile Journeys sind eine Reihe von 6 Events, bei denen wir die ausrangierten Textilien Berlins unter die Lupe nehmen. Bei jeder der Events wird ein bestimmtes Kreislauftextil-Thema behandelt (siehe unten) und eine dazugehörige KNOWLEDGE-Seite wird auf dem A-Gain Guide veröffentlicht, einer Plattform, die eine Übersicht über die Textilwiederverwendungsdienste und -akteure in Berlin bietet - auch bekannt als #textilretters! Jede KNOWLEDGE-Seite enthält eine Auswahl an Tipps, Tricks und Ressourcen zu einem Kreislauftextil-Thema und die Beantwortung einiger Fragen auf der GUIDE-Funktion hilft dir, eine individuelle Lösung für deine Textilien zu finden.

Die Journeys wurden zusammen mit unserem Partner STREETWARE Saved Item entwickelt - einer Berliner NGO, die seit Anfang 2021 eigene Textil-Aktivismus-Performances und -Events, wie die STREET-Shopping-Tour, organisiert.

Jede Veranstaltung der Reihe dauert etwa 4 Stunden einschließlich einer kurzen Pause.
