About this event
Online-Event in the framework of ESA Business Applications and Space Solutions
Thursday – 24 February 2022, 16:00 – 18:00 h (CET) and subsequent online networking
The pandemic has imposed stresses on all segments of the supply chain systems, particularly challenging for the delivery of sensitive goods, amongst which the pharmaceutical segment has exposed the vulnerability of the supply chain. At the core of the challenge is not only organizing the services that carry the sensitive goods, but rather making sure that every part of the supply chain is running, to avoid losses throughout the system and prevent delays that could damage the goods due to unstable temperatures.
Thus, the European Space Agency has issued an Announcement of Opportunity on “Digital Supply Chain” offering support and funding to companies, to assess the technical feasibility and economic viability of sustainable space-based applications and services (feasibility study) and to develop such services (demo project). Using space data and/or technologies, these services should contribute to solve current issues and challenges in relation to the digital supply chain.
The intended Announcement of Opportunity targets the development of services and products for supporting the digital transformation of the traditional supply chains, particularly in relation to sensitive goods transport. Among these, pharmaceuticals goods, vaccines, medical equipment, as well as luxurious but also perishable or dangerous goods, which impose specific logistics challenges. Specific attention is placed on food supply chains, pushed by the need to make global food systems more transparent, traceable, and accountable so that diseases are less likely to jump undetected from animal to human.
The online event will:
- introduce ESA Business Applications and Space Solutions,
- give an overview on the roles of partners involved,
- present the ESA BA Announcement of Opportunity "Digital Supply Chain",
- discuss needs and challenges with potential customers/users
- highlights the support available from ESA Business Applications Ambassadors and
- offers opportunities for exchange and networking with participants.
