Are you interested in gaining Parametric competency to push your design skills to the next level?
Are you ready to learn a very exciting and powerful tool that will take your ideas and concepts to a whole new realm?

This Parametric Design General Workshop will provide you with the necessary knowledge and ability to use Grasshopper, a free visual programming plugin in Rhinoceros. The workshop will also include a hands on parametric project.

General Workshop Schedule

Total duration is 16 hours: 4 Sundays, 10:00-14:00

Sunday 02.04.2017:

Unit 01 (2-hours): Basic: Rhino Intro, GH Interface, Number Generators, Points, Lines, Vectors, Curves, Curve Evaluation.

Unit 02 (2-hours): Basic: Transforms, Planes, Surfaces, Surface Evaluation.

Sunday 09.04.2017:

Unit 03 (2-hours): Intermediate: Lists, Culling, Boolean Logic, Sorting.

Unit 04 (2-hours): Intermediate: NURBS & Mesh, Brep Analysis/Operations, Mesh Analysis/Operations, Triangulation.

Sunday 16.04.2017:

Unit 05 (2-hours): Intermediate + Digital Fabrication Project: Trees, Branching, Flattening, Grafting.

Unit 06 (2-hours): Intermediate + Digital Fabrication Project: Attractor Logic, Paneling, Geometry Morphing.

Sunday 23.04.2017:

Unit 07 (2-hours): Advanced + Digital Fabrication Project: LunchBox, Paneling Tools, Weaverbird, Orienting, Flattening.

Unit 08 (2-hours): Advanced + Digital Fabrication Project: Text Tagging, Dimensioning, STL Export for 3D Printing + Cura.

The Participants will be given optional (but highly recommended) weekly assignments to practice their skills.

The Digital Fabrication Project will be a “Parametric Vase” that the participants will design.
Participants will choose 1 out of 5 types of parametric families (1- Breathe, 2- Twist, 3- Cellular, 4- Flat, 5- Waffle), then they will develop their design into a complete Grasshopper Definition and fabricate it using FabLab’s amenities (3D Printing, Laser Cutting or CNC Milling).

The instructor will support the participants to make sure their projects will be realized on time.

IMPORTANT: FabLab is very glad to provide the usage of the fabrication machines (3D Printers/Laser Cutters/CNC) to the workshop participants for FREE!


Public Exhibition of Participants‘ Projects at FabLab by the end of the Workshop:

2x A3 Printed Sheets showing:

Diagram of the Parametric Definition
Visual Illustration of the design in proper views (perspective, elevation, etc.)

1x Physical Model (Optional, but highly recommended):

3D Printed or Laser Cut or CNC Milled model of 30cmx30cmx30cm maximum size

CERTIFICATE: Participants will be given a certificate of participation at the end of the Workshop.

Total duration is 16 hours: 4 Sundays, 10:00-14:00
Regular Price: 480€/Participant (excl. MwSt.)
Student discount: 20% off: 384€/Student (excl. MwSt.)
Students need to provide: Copy of current student ID or proof of student enrollment at University/School.

Participants are kindly asked to bring their own laptops and have pre-installed Rhino + Grasshopper.
