Set on the grounds of a former amusement park in Plänterwald, this edition of the Kiezsalon is another two-day affair. Following Saturday’s lineup of Rắn Cạp Đuôi and Silvia Tarozzi & Deborah Walker, Sunday continues with drone composer Fia Fell as well as cellist Martina Bertoni.
Fia Fiell (Carolyn Schofield) crafts intricate compositions on multiple synths, exploring deep listening, growth and transcendence. Both gentle and powerful, her performances transport audiences with lush melodies and spectral ambience, bending time and rhythm like a breathing membrane.
Her latest release, the 15-minute ‘Endless Filament‘, showcases her dynamic drone approach, contrasting with the cyclical melodies of her first album All in the Same Room, lauded as “awfully close to perfection” by Bandcamp Daily. Carolyn’s work earns acclaim across the spheres of electronic, experimental and classical music.
Martina Bertoni is an experimental cellist and composer based in Berlin. Her music channels emotional and physical depths while exploring the liminal spaces between perception of space and sound. Classically trained, Bertoni has developed her research and practices on experimental and film music, leading to her compositions being featured in numerous works and soundtracks for films, series and documentaries.
In her 2023 album Hypnagogia, released by Karlrecords, she continues to explore the sonic possibilities of her instrument, crafting sonic sculptures full of friction, influenced by ambient, drone and modern composition.
Spreepark Berlin, formerly known as Kulturpark Plänterwald, was an amusement park that originally opened in 1969. Financial difficulties led to its closure in 2001, and since then, the park has remained abandoned, becoming a popular destination for urban explorers and photographers. Ongoing efforts to revitalise the area have not fully materialised, leaving the location with a haunted quality as overgrowth engulfs the remnants of a vibrant past.
