GRRN Summit 2019

The Ernst-Mach-Institut studies high-speed processes in experiment and simulation. We consider them from a physical and engineering perspective and develop solutions for industrial applications.Our center of interest is on security, resilience, reliability, efficiency and sustainability of structures, components and systems under dynamic and extraordinary loads. We analyze phenomena of crash, impact and shock-waves in materials, microstructures as well as in complex systems.Our applications range from components and design of structures to whole vehicles and defense technology systems, from buildings and infrastructures, urban systems and networks to satellite systems.TheFraunhofer-Gesellschaftis the leading organization for applied research in Europe. Its research activities are conducted by 72 institutes and research units at locations throughout Germany. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft employs a staff of more than 25,000, who work with an annual research budget totaling more than 2,3 billion euros.

The Inaugural 2018 GRRN Summit in Boston, USA brought together leading resilience experts from 20 major universities and research institutions from 14 countries in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North and South America. Powerful stories were shared by distinguished practitioners who have recently been on the front lines of managing some of the 21st century’s most catastrophic disasters.
Fraunhofer EMI, an institute of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Europe’s largest organization for applied research, will host the second summit of the Global Resilience Research Network (GRRN) on April 10–11, 2019. This event will build upon the successful launch of the GRRN at Northeastern University in Boston in March 2018. It will bring together many of the world’s top academic, applied research, public policy and industry experts to exchange the latest ideas and solutions for informing and advancing resilience on multiple scales.
