About the speakers
Dr. Ali Mazaheri
Associate professor of Psychology at the University of Birmingham
Ali completed his B.Sc and M.Sc degree in Neuroscience at the University of Toronto, Canada. He obtained his PhD degree at the Donders Institute for Cognitive Neuroimaging, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. After a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California, Davis, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Academic Medical Centre, University of Amsterdam. He is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Psychology, University of Birmingham (United Kingdom), and a Principal Investigator at the Centre for Human Brain Health
Dr. Damian Cruse
Associate professor of Psychology at the University of Birmingham
Damian grew up in Aberystwyth, Wales, and studied his undergraduate degree in Applied Psychology at Cardiff University from 2002-2006. In 2009 he completed his PhD at Cardiff University under the supervision of Prof. Ed Wilding. From 2009 to 2015, Damian was a post-doctoral fellow at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit (Cambridge, UK) and a research scientist at The Brain and Mind Institute, University of Western Ontario (Canada) under the supervision of Prof. Adrian M. Owen. In September 2015, Damian began as a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Birmingham, and in 2018 was promoted to Senior Lecturer.
Dr Andrea Krott
Reader in Psychology of Language at the University of Birmingham
Andrea's research interests lie in the areas of bilingualism and children's language acquisition. She completed an M.A. in Computational Linguistics and German Language and Literature at the University of Trier (Germany) in 1995. Following this, Andrea held positions as a database manager at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in The Netherlands and as a research assistant at Humboldt University in Berlin. In 2001, Andrea earned a PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics / Radboud University (Nijmegen, The Netherlands). Subsequently, she served as a postdoctoral fellow in the Linguistics department at the University of Alberta (Canada), before assuming the role of a Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor) at the University of Birmingham in 2002. Currently, Andrea holds the position of a Reader (equivalent to Senior Associate Professor) in Psychology of Language.
Dr. Fabio Barollo
ANT Neuro Application Specialist , ANT Neuro, Germany
Fabio is a biomedical engineer and earned his joint PhD from Aston University (UK) and Reykjavik University (Iceland). His main research focus lies in the use of EEG to investigate the cortical mechanisms which regulate postural control, i.e., the sensorial-feedback system which allows us to maintain a balanced stance. His main experience involves EEG/EMG data analysis, source reconstruction, functional connectivity and brain network analysis. Currently, he is working for the Berlin-based medical technology company ANT Neuro (eemagine) as an application specialist.
Ir. Krittika Choudhury, Msc
Head of Customer Success at ANT Neuro, the Netherlands
Krittika is a biomedical engineer and holds a Master's degree from the University of Twente, The Netherlands where she chose to specialize in the Neural Motor systems track. Her Master thesis was focused on studying upper limb movements of stroke subjects using neuromechanical modeling and incorporating hd-EMG and kinematic data as inputs to arrive at representative musculoskeletal models of the wrist joint. Her main interest areas include hd-EMG, EEG, joint kinematics and biomechanical modeling. Currently, she leads the Customer Success Team at ANT Neuro/eemagine which comprises of a group of Application Specialists and Technical Support Engineers who work towards helping end-users leverage ANT Neuro products to the best of their needs.
