English below; le francais suit...Diplomacy by Networking, die Botschaft von Kanada in Deutschland und Merlin Verlag freuen sich, Sie zu der nächsten Berlin Session mit dem Titel "Elemente indigenen Stils - Wie schreibt und spricht man über indigene Kulturen?" einzuladen.Cowboyhüte und Federschmuck zu Fasching oder Blackfacing in Film und Theater - auch hierzulande wird bereits eine kontroverse Debatte über kulturelle Aneignung und Verantwortung in der Auseinandersetzung mit globalen Kolonialisierungsgeschichten geführt. Doch wie können rassistische Sterotypen und Klischees im Umgang mit indigenen Kulturen und Literaturen verhindert werden, und vor allem: Wie können wir es besser machen? Gregory Younging, Mitglied der Opaskwayak Cree Nation und jahrelanger Herausgeber von Theytus Books, dem ersten Verlag in indigenem Besitz und unter indigener Leitung in Kanada, liefert uns mit seinem Buch «Elements of Indigenous Style: A Guide for Writing By and About Indigenous Peoples» einen grundlegenden Leitfaden, der die Notwendigkeit und die Möglichkeiten eines respektvollen Umgangs mit indigenen Literaturen und kultureller Praxis beschreibt.Im Rahmen der deutschen Erstübersetzung von Gregory Younging's Buch freuen wir uns, Sie am Dienstag, den 11. But how can we avoid racist stereotypes and clichés when dealing with Indigenous cultures and literatures and, above all, how can we do better? Gregory Younging, a member of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation and longtime publisher of Theytus Books, the first Indigenous-owned and operated publishing house in Canada, provides us with a basic guide to the necessity and possibilities of a respectful approach to Indigenous literatures and cultural practices in his book "Elements of Indigenous Style: A Guide for Writing By and About Indigenous Peoples”.On the occasion of the new German translation of Gregory Younging's book, we are pleased to invite you to a panel discussion on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 6:00 pm (admission from 5:30 pm) at the Embassy of Canada in Germany (Leipziger Platz 17, 10117 Berlin).
