Learning objectives:
Get familiar with different available EU funding initiatives and gain insights into the “cascade funding galaxy”; Present to clusters alternative ways to help their SME taking the right approach to EU funding; Understand your role in SME growth and position our cluster as a strong enabler in that direction.
Help your SMEs de-risk approaching investment sources; After this module, you will be able to help your SME member choose the right funding opportunity and prepare for the application process; This will improve your support services, as you will be able to promote entrance into networks; Distribute information which funding is available for them and help them choose the best suited programme to generate maximum results
Course content:
- Different available funding initiatives – grants, loans, guarantees, repayable advances etc.
- Most valuable funding programmes for bioeconomy SMEs (Horizon Europe Bio/Food cluster, LIFE, BBI/CBE)
- Other European available financing mechanisms, blended instruments, or country-specific financial instruments.
- How to set up a funding strategy able to generate a pipeline of opportunities aligned with the specific SME needs and assets
- New funding opportunities such as EIC Accelerator, EUREKA Eurostar, EIT Food and EIT Climate- KIC

Filippo Giancarlo Martinelli (MBA, PDEng, MSc) has been working for Irish Bioeconomy Foundation (Growing Ireland's Bioeconomy Together - https://bioeconomyfoundation.com/), since 2019 when he had the pleasure to serve as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Filippo is still very active within IBF supporting the foundation as European Ambassador working on EU-funded projects such as MPowerBIO (https://mpowerbio.eu/), BIObec (https://biobec.eu/) and as coordinator for BioeconomyVentures (https://www.bioeconomyventures.eu/).
Prior to that he worked within PNO Consultants group of firms, the European leader in grant consulting and innovation processes management, moving from Consultant (2014-2016) to Pipeline Manager (2016-2017), Brussels-EU P&L unit Operations Manager (2017-2018) as well as International Sector Team Leader Agri-Food Bioeconomy. During his career, Filippo has gathered direct technical experience operating within the fields of biofuels (Agroils Technologies), biochemicals (Delft Advanced Biorenewables) and bio-actives (KtedoGEN/NAICONS), as well as management consulting and project development experience for innovative projects within several other sectors such as agri-food, forestry, marine, textile and critical raw materials, being deeply involved into enabling the implementation of cutting-edge sustainable innovation within society.
His educational background include a BSc in Biotechnology (2009, Parma, IT), an MSc in Industrial Biotechnology (2011, Milan, IT), a Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng) in BioProduct Design (2014, Delft, NL) and an Executive MBA (2017, Rotterdam, NL).
