Computer-assisted language learning (CALL/iCALL) is becoming more and more frequent in teaching and learning modern languages. At the same time, more and more high-quality historical corpora and other resources are becoming available. This workshop aims at bridging the gap between CALL and historical corpora.

By ‘historical languages’ we mean languages or language stages that are not currently spoken and are, therefore, learned for different reasons than modern languages. We can distinguish between three groups of users. The first group includes scholars in fields such as linguistics, history, literature, medicine, and law who need ways of accessing, analyzing, and evaluating historical texts. The second group is comprised of (high-school or university) students who are learning these languages as part of their curriculum. The third group includes teachers who are interested in locating exercises or examples from original texts. All three groups need to have ready access to a wide variety of texts, but the ways in which they interact with these texts will vary according to their proficiency levels and interests.

For our workshop, we welcome contributions that deal with any aspect of computer-assisted language learning for historical languages and the specific affordances of blended learning in this area. We want to especially encourage submissions that make use of historical corpora.
