About this event

When we finally find our way to Fusion Dance, we carry with us our experiences, good and bad, our expectations and assumptions, our cultural norms, the things we were taught at school and the things we picked up on the street, the things we learned to master through hours of training and the things we are yet yearning to grasp. Ultimately, we are born to learn.

My intention is to invite speakers, share some of my own insight as a dancer, facilitator and psychologist and have small and big group discussion pods on hot topics like social inclusion, post-festival blues, dealing with consent violations and trauma-informed care/welfare teams.

In this series of online events, I am aiming to bring together voices from all over our the Fusion Dance Community. Those who have dances for decades and those who have just started to make their first steps on the dance floor. Those who have studied and taught dance, movement, psychology, sociology and those who have learned it all along the way. Each and every opinion is valid - and important. Please send me an email if you have a suggestion for a topic, if you'd like to co-host or want to apply as a speaker or presenter.

The topic of this 3rd session will be:

"Preventing and Recovering from Boundary Breaches in the Fusion Dance Community"

This session will be a pro-active exchange of experiences and ideas. To participate fully, please do your own reading into this topic, make a list of books that may be relevant, check out clips on YouTube or research guidelines from governmental bodies or charities. If there is an expert speaker that you’d like to suggest for this session, please get in touch. Some key terms are: restorative justice, moderation, mediation, boundaries, agreements, bans, preventing/recovering from boundary breaches. Everybody welcome. This event is free of charge. You may wish to get in touch or make a donation via Paypal to DanceWithSkye@gmail.com to support conference tool fees and speakers.

This is an opportunity to spend time with some old and new fusion dance friends from different scenes and cities, to listen in on one person’s perspective on a topic and to discuss and exchange ideas in small and large groups. You are very welcome to join this topic as a co-host/speaker!

The format can be something like this:

-Welcome and short round of hello's incl. short awareness exercise

-Talk on TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE TEAMS FOR FUSION DANCE EVENTS AND FESTIVALS.

-Small group sharings (break-out rooms - please select a moderator for each group to ensure respectful, topical conversation where everybody gets an equal chance to speak and to ensure results are being fed back into the big group)

-Sharing of small group outcomes in the big group

-Collection of new topics for following events

-Closing incl. short awareness exercise

In participating, you agree to respect other people's perspectives, even if they contradict yours. Please try to use non-violent language, speak from the 'I' and do not interrupt others. Respect when people ask for confidentiality of their shares. Only share as much as you like and feel free to tap out of conversation any time. It is ok to get triggered, we may be talking about some uncomfortable things. Take a deep breath and remind yourself that you are welcomed, appreciated and safe. We are not looking to figure out what is 'right' or 'wrong' or to find a one-fits-all solution to complex issues. Let's be here to understand ourselves and each other better. Ultimately, we are coming together to exchnaeg ideas that help build healthy dance - and that's great!

Participation is free. You may wish to make a small donation (2 - 5 GBP) via Paypal Friends and Family to DanceWithSkye@gmail.com
