ARTPEACE launch, 9 June in Berlin: Film screening, panel discussion, exhibition & live music performance

Peace is not only negotiated around diplomatic tables: it is imagined, contested, legitimised, and sustained through culture, memory, heritage, and the arts. We warmly invite you to celebrate the launch of ARTPEACE, a new project exploring the role of arts and culture in fostering sustainable and just peace. At a time when many formal peace processes struggle to deliver lasting impact, ARTPEACE shines a light on the creative spaces where alternative visions of peaceful societies are shaped and brought to life. The ARTPEACE consortium will bring together peacebuilders, researchers and policy makers with artists and cultural institutions from the Basque Country, Bosnia &amp; Herzegovina, Cyprus, Israel/Palestine, Kosovo, Lebanon, Syria and Ukraine to investigate how grassroots artistic practices can realise their full potential in advancing conflict transformation and peacebuilding. Join us on 9 June in Berlin for an inspiring evening at Europäisches Haus. Please bring a valid photo ID with you on the day. Programme: 17:00 Opening and film screening (film to be announced) 17:30 Panel discussion: What can art do that traditional peacebuilding cannot? Artists and curators from conflict contexts will join members of the ARTPEACE consortium and policy experts to discuss how grassroots artistic practices challenge and reshape dominant narratives about violence and peace.Panel:<ul><li>Yaroslav Minkin, founder of Youth organization STAN in Ukraine and curator of the exhibition “Under Occupation” (EU Creative Europe programme)</li><li>Ambassador David Fernandez Puyana, Permanent Observer of the United Nations University for Peace to UNESCO and to the UN Office in Geneva, member of ARTPEACE Advisory Board</li><li>Prof. Oliver Richmond, Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies at Manchester University, Scientific Lead of ARTPEACE and Board member of the Nobel Centre's series on Art and Peace in Oslo</li><li>Farah Wardani, theatre artist and director of Laban Theatre in Lebanon, member of ARTPEACE Advisory Board</li></ul>Moderated by <a href="https://berghof-foundation.org/about/people/beatrix-austin" title="https://berghof-foundation.org/about/people/beatrix-austin" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Beatrix Austin</a>, Head of Department Conflict Transformation Research, Berghof Foundation. 18:00 Live music performance by Berlin-based Palestinian singer <a href="https://www.rashanahas.com/" title="https://www.rashanahas.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Rasha Nahas</a>.
