In our online event “Artificial and Human Intelligence – Scientific and Practical Perspectives”, we want to shed light on the increasingly important conjunction between human and machine intelligence from a scientific and a practical perspective. A scientific impulse by Prof. Dr Andreas Fügener (Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne) will lay the theoretical foundation of the event. His talk is then complemented by a practical perspective fom Maximilian vom Eyser (CEMS alumnus and Senior Digital Growth Strategist at Google) to identify the specific differences and similarities between artificial and human intelligence and to provide participants with a differentiated picture of the opportunities and challenges of AI and HI collaboration.On the one hand, the processing speed of AI systems far exceeds that of humans: they are more efficient in their analyses because they limit themselves solely on the patterns and characteristics contained in their training data sets. On the other hand, humans are better at recognising complex contexts, especially when they contain multi-layered cultural and emotional aspects. Human intelligence is more flexible and creative in solving tasks, especially in unusual or novel contexts. Harnessing the complementary strengths of machine precision and human intuition, this collaboration holds promise across diverse domains, from healthcare to business and beyond.As technology continues to advance, AI-driven systems are reshaping the way we approach problem solving and innovation. But while the symbiotic relationship between humans and AI systems offers unprecedented prospects for innovation and efficiency across various domains, the integration of AI into human workflows also poses challenges such as ethical concerns, job displacement, and biases inherent in AI algorithms. In order to maximize the potential for positive societal impact, striking the right balance between human ingenuity and machine intelligence requires facing and navigating these challenges.
