🔎 Talk: "AI Power and Human Dreaming"
🗓️ Date: 18th May 2026

What to expect: With the growing hype around data-driven, generative AI, it is important to take a step back and ask fundamental questions: Why are we striving for increasingly powerful AI? What is AI’s promise, and where are its structural and conceptual limitations? This talk critically examines the idea of AI as a general-purpose technology and, most importantly, reflects the role of humans in an AI-driven age. By offering a counter-intuitive perspective, it highlights uniquely human cognitive strengths that AI does not possess and explores how we can actively shape a future in which humans remain central.
Viktor Mayer-Schönberger is Professor of Internet Governance and Regulation at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on the societal and economic impact of data, artificial intelligence and digital technologies. He is widely known for his work on big data and has authored several influential books on the subject. His work explores how data-driven innovation transforms markets, organizations and decision-making in the digital age.
We are looking forward to an exciting talk. Faculty, students, and guests are welcome.
Best regards,
Isabell Welpe, Theresa Treffers & Team (Chair for Strategy and Organization)
