About Wait Until Later

Wait Until Later is a parent-led initiative dedicated to delaying smartphone access for children until the age of 16. With families across Portugal and beyond joining the movement, we are fostering healthier habits, stronger communities, and reducing the social pressure on kids to get a smartphone too soon.

Why It Matters

Smartphones dominate elementary and middle school environments, driven by unrealistic social expectations. Yet, these devices introduce countless distractions and potential risks at a time when children should be engaging in meaningful activities—playing outside, reading, and building real-world connections. Instead, many are spending hours on social media and YouTube, often at the expense of their well-being.

Resisting the pull of smartphones can feel like an uphill battle, especially when they are embedded in classrooms, social settings, and even family meals. That’s why parents are coming together to set a new standard. By waiting until 16, families can create a healthier, more intentional approach to technology, preserving childhood experiences and empowering kids to develop critical life skills.
