Description

Berlin and Brandenburg panel session: "Broadcast and Production in the post Brexit era"

Political rhetoric aside, this session will provide visitors to BVE with practical advice on how to use Berlin and Brandenburg as a base to continue operating in Europe, without interruption once the UK leaves the European Union.

We’ll hear from the director of the Media Authority Berlin-Brandenburg (mabb) as we talk about post-Brexit broadcasting. The panel will also feature industry-leaders from the Association of International Broadcasting (AIB), Viacom and UFA to speak about the practicalities of working in the EU post-Brexit and the benefits of working within Germany’s bustling media industry.

The session will be followed by networking drinks.

The moderator:

Kate Bulkley, media commentator, presenter and journalist @KateComments

An award-winning business journalist, Kate contributes to national UK newspapers and also writes regularly for specialist publications, including DTVE (formerly Cable & Satellite Europe), Hollywood Reporter and Broadcast Magazine in the UK. She has more than 30 years’ experience in covering media, technology, telecommunications and all the intersections among them.

Kate will lead the panel at BVE, discussing the challenges and more importantly the opportunities for content producers and distributors to take advantage of post-Brexit to continue delivering to consumers in the EU member states even once the UK has left the European Union.

The panelists:

Dr. Anja Zimmer, director of the Media Authority Berlin-Brandenburg (mabb)

Following questions from UK TV providers and content distributors ahead of Britain’s departure from the EU, Dr. Zimmer and the mabb will provide visitors to BVE with practical advice for delivering their services, uninterrupted, after Brexit. To do this, operators will need to apply for local licenses in EU member states, something which Dr. Zimmer will be able to offer advice on. The mabb is the co-host of the panel and event.

Ernst Feiler, director of technology, UFA GmbH

As a leading figure within TV production in Germany, Ernst will bring to the panel expertise in producing content within the Berlin and Brandenburg area, and can talk about the advantages of operating in the region in a post-Brexit scenario.

Michael Keidel, vice president content distribution & sales, GSA, Viacom

A multi-national media operation, Viacom Inc has its headquarters in New York and has multiple European operations. With its German subsidiary in Berlin, Michael will be able to join the panel to talk about Viacom’s experiences as an international media group and TV channel in Berlin and Brandenberg region as well as how Brexit will affect international media groups like Viacom.

Simon Spanswick, chief executive, the Association for International Broadcasting

As a founder director and the CEO of the Association for International Broadcasting, the industry association for cross-border electronic media - TV, radio, online and mobile, Simon leads the AIB’s work on a day to day basis across regulatory affairs, cyber security, audience research and sustainability, as well as a host of other subjects.
