Imagining with the body mind

Three-day actor training with Antonia Cezara Cioaza & Jakob Nielsen (Odin Teatret).

For three days in Berlin, actors Antonia Cezara Cioaza and Jakob Nielsen will share their training “Imagining with the Body Mind”, developed together with director Eugenio Barba since 2022.

The work focuses on the use of imagination in the pre-expressive level of the creative process of the actor, making the difference between action and movement, between the exercises of the actors and simple gymnastics, emphasizing the difference made by the use of inner images in the physical work of the actor.

About the training

Through physical exercises, the participants will explore principles of theatre anthropology:

• extra-daily behaviour;
• energy in time and energy in space;
• dynamics of oppositions and balance;
• segmentation;
• equivalence;
• organicity;
• composition through different ways of walking and dancing.

The exercises are built in a way which allows the participants to use their imagination and personal associations in order to work on their presence on stage.

The workshop will also include space for reflection and discussion, and optional evening screenings of Odin Teatret work, depending on the needs of the group.

• actors/actresses
• performers and dancers (contemporary, experimental, body-based practices)
• directors and acting / movement teachers who collect tools for working with performers
• students of theatre and dance schools
• practitioners of bodywork, somatics, yoga who are moving towards performance
• anyone interested in Odin Teatret / Eugenio Barba’s tradition and actor’s craft.

Fees & registration

Standard fee: 250 €

About the trainers

Antonia Cezara Cioaza and Jakob Nielsen are actors of Odin Teatret (Holstebro, Denmark). Together with director Eugenio Barba they have been developing the training “Imagining with the Body Mind” since January 2022, as part of their continuous research on theatre anthropology and the craft of the actor.

The Berlin workshop is organised by Anja Demidova, theatre director and facilitator based in Berlin.
