About this event
The European Commission’s draft Directive on working conditions in the platform (or ‘gig’) economy is a promising addition to the social acquis. It addresses key risks facing gig workers, including employment status misclassification, algorithmic management, and the enforcement of existing rules. The Directive’s focus on harms which stem from algorithmic management, from automatic pay-docking and shift scheduling to automated termination, is particularly welcome. As the Directive progresses through the legislative process, this lecture will consider key provisions and their interaction with other norms of employment and data protection law to understand how they can ensure comprehensive protection of workers’ fundamental rights.
We are honored to welcome Professor Jeremias Adams-Prassl (Faculty of Law, University of Oxford) as a guest lecturer in our weekly ENS Research Seminar. The seminar will take place in a hybrid format - the live and interactive Zoom session will be open to everybody. The link will be provided by mail following registration for the event.
