The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft undertakes applied research of direct utility to private and public enterprise and of wide benefit to society. The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation has a unique group associated to the University Medical Center in Mannheim, which is specialized in Automation in Medicine and Biotechnology. With 30 engineers, the department is working on robotics shaping the future of healthcare. Beside classical clinical disciplines like surgical robotics including minimally invasive medical system, other clinical disciplines like clinical chemistry are supported. Its unique infrastructure allows for the full service provision from concept development to clinical testing together with key opinion leaders in most clinical disciplines.The newly founded Mannheim Medical Transfer Center (M²TC) offers a direct access and corresponding services to an unique infrastructure for training and education, product developments and benchmarking.
