Dear friends:

we at PxP Embassy e.V. are only some of many people who try to help give BIPoC refugees from Ukraine a warm and sensitive welcome here in Germany. Early on, we joined forces with our friends in Bienvenida Initiative to provide you with support in accommodation and legal counseling.

CHALLENGE

We know you faced incredible hardships on your journey here. And we sincerely share your feeling that, so far, Germany is treating you like second-class refugees, when really you too have lost a life back in Ukraine. Ukrainian citizens are granted relatively easy access to residence, work permits and social welfare. We believe that all refugees should be treated equally.

GOAL

We have joined the Berlin Refugee Council (Berliner Flüchtlingsrat) and a broad coalition of other organizations in demanding the equal treatment of all people who had to flee from Ukraine. We demand that Ukrainian refugees with third country nationalities be granted a residence title that allows them to rebuild their lives, including 2 years of residence, work and study permit and unbureaucratic access to social welfare.

EVENT

On May 17/18, 2022, Berlin will host a pre-conference for the upcoming Conference of the Ministers of Interior. That means that these people inform the very politicians who will decide on your legal situation. We want to make your claim heard and carry our mutual demand into these meetings. We want to hold them accountable so they can't keep sealing your fates behind closed doors. To do that, we are organizing a Welcome Conference with other activists, politicians, supporters from arts and culture, media representatives and –most importantly – with you, our protagonists, so you can make your voices heard.

The Event will feature info stands from NGOs and legal counseling workshops designed to help you. Come around, get informed and connect with other people in your situation. There will also be a stage with two panel talks:

PANEL 1 (ca. 14-14.45 / 2 to 2.45 pm):

Structural Discrimination: Is Germany treating Ukrainian third country nationals like second-class refugees?

PANEL 2 (ca. 15.15-16.00 / 3.15 to 4 pm)

What legal leverage and responsibility does Germany have to avoid such discrimination and provide all war refugees with a fair chance to rebuild their lives?

Like we said: We think you should be the protagonists of such event. We invite and encourage you to come and participate. Let us know your most pressing questions and needs so the info stands and workshops can be prepared to address them. Let us know if want to make your voice heard during the first on-stage panel discussion. This talk would only feature supportive organizations willing to push your cause. There will be interpretation services so you can follow the entire event!

Liebe Freunde

wie viele andere Organisationen engagiert sich auch der PxP Embassy e.V. mit der Initiative „Bienvenida“ seit Anfang März für die Unterstützung von Drittstaatsangehörigen, die vor dem Krieg aus der Ukraine fliehen müssen. Dabei liegt unser Fokus auf der sensiblen Betreuung von BIPoC-Personen, die besonders von Rassismus und Diskriminierung betroffen sind.

HERAUSFORDERUNG

Diese Menschen werden bislang wie Geflüchtete zweiter Klasse behandelt, obwohl auch sie ihr Leben in der Ukraine verloren haben. Sie sollen in ihre Herkunftsländer zurückkehren und vom temporären Schutz als Kriegsvertriebene ausgeschlossen werden. Im Gegensatz zu fliehenden Ukrainer:innen erhalten sie in Deutschland keinen unbürokratischen Zugang zu Aufenthaltstitel, Arbeitserlaubnis und Sozialleistungen.

ZIEL

Das muss sich ändern. Darum fordern wir, gemeinsam mit dem Berliner Flüchtlingsrat und einem breiten Aktionsbündnis, die Gleichbehandlung aller aus der Ukraine geflohenen Menschen. Insbesondere fordern wir eine 2jährige Aufenthalts- und Arbeitserlaubnis mit Zugang zu Sozialleistungen für sogenannte Drittstaatsangehörige und Staatenlose aus der Ukraine.

EVENT

Am 17./18. Mai 2022 tagt die Vorkonferenz zur Innenminister:innenkonferenz. Wir wollen unsere Forderung mit einem lautstarken Signal in diese Gespräche hineintragen. Dafür planen wir ein öffentlichkeitswirksames Leuchtturm-Treffen mit Mitwirkenden, verantwortlichen Politiker:innen, Unterstützer:innen aus Kunst und Kultur, Pressevertreter:innen und – das ist uns besonders wichtig – den betroffenen Protagonist:innen selbst.
