Description

Entity Theatre’s 2018 open air summer production is

William Shakespeare's Hamlet

The revenge

During the wedding of King Claudius and Queen Gertrude, Hamlet is told by his good friend Horatio that a ghost, much resembling the recently deceased King of Denmark, Hamlet’s father, has been seen stalking the ramparts of Castle Elsinore. That night, Hamlet meets the ghost, who claims that he is indeed Old Hamlet and that he was murdered by his very own brother, Claudius, now occupying the throne.

Appalled by what he hears, Hamlet quickly accepts the ghost’s command to seek revenge.

The love story

Hamlet loves Ophelia. Yet her father, Polonius, strictly forbids her to have any further contact with Hamlet who is out of her league. Ophelia, obedient to her father, rejects any further gifts from Hamlet.

The tragedy

As Polonius develops a plot to spy on a meeting between Hamlet and Ophelia, Hamlet develops a plot of his own: he will have a recently arrived troupe of actors put on a play that resembles Claudius’s alleged murder of Old Hamlet and watch Claudius’s reaction: The Mousetrap. But how will he take revenge if he finds out the truth?
