With Juliane Jaschnow, Stefanie Schroeder, Agnieszka Polska, Roee Rosen, moderated by Florian Wüst

“I have completed the construction of my burrow and it seems to be successful.” This sentence opens Franz Kafka’s short story The Burrow, a monologue by an unidentified animal that has created a labyrinthine earthwork to keep it safe, comfortable, and protected from enemies. In spite of its fears, the animal is never actually attacked, but an inexplicable noise—and the awareness of its own imperfect construction skills—cause it to panic. Oliver Zabat’s film Perspective du sous-sol shows this ultimately uncontrollable relationship between threat and protection with direct reference to Kafka’s parable. Booby Trap combines Zabat’s work with artistic and documentary films by Agnieszka Polska, Roee Rosen, Juliane Jaschnow, and Stefanie Schroeder, who draw unsettling and surprising pictures of xenophobia, fear mongering, information overload, and inflated language in the many filter bubbles of the post-digital world.
