TAKING SPACE – being OK with yourself no matter what
This workshop explores how we can be OK with taking up space.
About this event
Would you like to feel (a little) more empowered to go out in the world and be yourself?
Many of us have a hard time shining a light on ourselves. It may feel difficult or painful to be at the centre of our own attention. You might worry that you're too much, that something bad will happen, or you just feel like you want to run as soon as someone asks how you are really doing.
Especially when the world around feels like an upside-down sh*tshow, what's the point of taking ourselves seriously, when we're sort of ok and getting by?
Nobody is helped by you 'just getting by', or by you only caring for others and not yourself. Everybody is helped by you being the freest, shiniest, most authentic version of yourself.
This workshop explores how we can be OK with taking up space.
It provides the start of a journey to get closer to yourself, whether that's about learning to set better boundaries, understanding your own needs, or else.
We look at taking space (and owning it) from three perspectives:
The SELF: How do you step into your own light?
The SELF-OTHER: How do you set boundaries? & How do you truly connect?
The GROUP: How do we navigate sharing space post-pandemic?
Through a combination of exercises (using the space) and discussion, we’ll dip our toes in the water of being OK with ourselves, no matter what.
Key words: confidence, self-belief, connection, joy.
This is for people of all ages, who might recognise themselves as:
- People who prefer helping others over helping themselves
- People who want to slow down but don't know where to start
- Over-thinkers and worried minds
- Creatives and entrepreneurs who procrastinate
- People who find it difficult or painful to centre themselves
- Those who want to do things like performing or do public speaking
In a very practical, non woo-woo way, you will:
Practice what it is like to stand in your own light
See yourself (really), and see others (really)
Experience that real connection starts with being connected to yourself
Build on your confidence
Why does this matter?: connection and OK-ness with yourself, at all times, is the solid base from which you can connect with others and create what you want in the world. It's where we find confidence, joy and connection.

Facilitator
Lucy Straathof is a life coach working with creatives and career changers. Through COACHING and FACILITATION she supports people to become the constant, stable centre of their own life again so that they can, for example, go out and create their dreams in reality. She aims to support people to replace stress and fuss with joy, clarity and purpose, so that taking action feels normal instead of only scary, and change becomes a natural part of their development.
This event is part of CONFIDENT CREATIVES CLUB: a community on a mission to fight isolation and self-doubt among artists and creatives by offering a space to show up exactly as you are. You'll find weekly interactive group conversations, workshops and the opportunity of sharing experiences and challenges with peers. A growth opportunity for all.
