Meet Jack is a pioneering female-led startup producing jackfruit-based meat alternatives out of the Netherlands.

On 22 October 2020, we’ll be talking with the founders, Kaline Van Helder and Marjolein Pleune, about why this fruit is a jack of all trades in the plant-based space. We’ll also discuss their entrepreneurial journey and what it’s like for women to start a company in the food industry.

Plant-based food is not a trend. It is fast becoming a mainstream lifestyle choice. In recent years, there has been rapid growth in this sector and the global plant-based meat market alone is currently valued at more than $12 billion. By 2040, plant-based and cultured meat alternatives are predicted to have a 60% share of the global meat market.

Big names like Beyond Meat, Impossible, and Just have blazed a trail in food innovation and food tech. However, there is more than one type of meat alternative. Many consumers prefer to opt for products with minimal processing and this is where jackfruit can take centre stage. Due to its natural meaty texture and nutritional value, it’s an ideal ingredient for use in the production of meat alternatives.

Meet Jack is one of the ProVeg Incubator’s alumni startups, having taken part in the fourth edition of our accelerator programme in 2020.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a virtual event. If you sign up for it here on eventbrite, you will receive an access link via e-mail before the fireside chat goes live.
