The 4th edition of the Sommer Akademy will offer students, professional dancers, young makers and dance enthusiasts the opportunity to work with international teachers and artists creating and delivering work across Europe and beyond today.

Workshops will focus on contemporary dance technique, movement and analytical research, choreographic structures and performance skills. Workshops will be offered between 16 – 28 July (Monday – Saturday) from 10:00 – 18:00 each day. Participants will experience working with 2 different artists where they will be working intensively for the period of 3 days. The schedule offers participants chance to work with 10 different international artists during the two weeks festival.

Candidates can choose between two groups classified as “soft” and “intensive” which reflects the dance experience of participants and the rhythm in which information will be shared and delivered during workshops.

The festival offers a range of passes to suit the needs of our participants. You can either buy a 3 day, 1 week or 2 weeks pass. Tickets allow participants to work with all artists involved in the programme based on the period of engagement. Each pass will also provide participants the opportunity to engage in other activities offered during the festival such as attending performances, discussions and informal sharing.

Group Definition - “Soft”

Suitable for participants with 1-3 years’ experience in contemporary dance technique or less and for those aiming to work on approach through a slower pace.

Candidates are invited to participate on all 3 days, working every day for 4 hours with each of the artists involved in the programme.

*Ido Batash (BE/IL)

He is an independent choreographer and a professional dancer based in Belgium. Between 2002-2018, Ido danced and performed for several companies, including: les ballets C de la B -(in C(H)OEURS & nicht schlafen) under the direction of the choreographer Alain Platel, Inbal Pinto & Avshalom Pollak dance Company, NDD-Galili Dance, Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company and he participated in projects of the choreographers Idan Cohen, Talia Back, Roy Assaf and Meytal Blanaru.

Along his personal artistic activities, Ido initiates independent projects in collaboration with other choreographers, artists and scientists from different disciplines, and he teaches contemporary dance classes and workshops based on his working method, at les ballets C de la B and other dance platforms and universities in Europe.

* Ady Elzam (BE/IL)

He is a dancer, teacher and choreographer, with a deep technical background in contemporary dance, improvisation and performance. Ady started dancing and performing at age 10 in the Israeli folklore dance school "The Iris of Nazareth". He met modern dance in 1997 and dedicated himself to the art of contemporary dance, improvisation and movement exploration.

Ady trained at the modern dance academy in Haifa and continued to dance in Vertigo Dance Company and DeDe Dance. Over the years he worked with many different choreographers such as; Ofra Idel, Elad Shecter, Matan Levkowich, Yuval Goldshtain, Sharona Floreshaim, Dafi Altabeb, to name a few. Ady Is also a trained practitioner in the Ilan Lev Method and practices Feldenkrais, meditation and yoga regularly.

*Eldad Ben Sasson (AU/RU/IL)

Eldad studied at the Bat Dor School of Dance. He worked with the Batsheva Dance Company, directed by Ohad Naharin, and Vertigo Dance Company, directed by Noa Wertheim and Adi Sha'al. He collaborated with many choreographers such as Mats Ek, Sharon Eyal, Alexandra Waierstall, Paul Norton, Yoshifumi Inao, Orjan Andersson, Michael Getman, Noa Dar, Yossi Berg, among others. He is invited to give workshops in schools, academies and companies in Israel and around the world. Eldad works as a choreographer since 2000. With his creation 4 of a kind he won the 1st place and the best dancer award.

He travels and performs around the world with his works and as a guest performer in different projects.

* Wooshing Machine (BE/IT)

WOOSHING MACHINE is a brussel's dance theatre collective created in 1998 by choreographer Mauro Paccagnella. The group's activity is driven by a desire to achieve an act of shared creation, whether inside or outside the theatre arena.
His success is down to that intimate melting of languages as they collide and print over one another, gloriously disturbing our perceptions. With no concessions, yet open. Dark yet funny. Strange yet near. A look, a vision. (Patrick Bonté)

*Asher Lev (BE/IL)

Born in Canada in 1981, Asher Lev is a dancer and choreographer whose works have toured in festivals in Europe, Israel, Canada and the U.S. He has danced for Batsheva in Tel-Aviv, Carte Blanche in Norway and has joined many other dance and performance projects across Europe. Asher has been teaching and guiding movement and choreography workshops in academies and dance companies (such as Cullberg Ballet) in Sweden, Israel, Canada and Norway. He has an M.A. in Choreography from the Amsterdam University of the Arts and a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Lev is curious about spiritual practices that resonate with his artistic path. He is invested in teacher plants, Sufi Spinning Practice, sitting and moving meditation and ecstatic Breathwork.
