Riesling SWAG 2017 (English Version)
Sat 1 April 2017, 19:00 – 23:30 CEST
Sharing is the most beautiful aspect of wine drinking – within the family, with friends, with other wine lovers – wines, experiences, impressions, friendships and conversations. Riesling SWAG is an event to share wines of Germany’s most famous grape.
Inspired by the La Paulée de Bourgogne dinners around the world and Stephen Bitterolf’s Rieslingfeier in New York City, at Riesling SWAG we want to celebrate our beloved white wine variety and share some great bottles. Eleven Riesling producers from Germany bring mature wines from their cellar, eleven sommeliers provide an entertaining and communicative wine service and the restaurant VLET in der Speicherstadt will serve a Northern German Riesling inspired 5-course menu.
Riesling SWAG is a Bring Your Own Bottle dinner, where the guests bring their own wine and share it with other Riesling lovers. Because the producers let you enjoy their own special bottles and the sommeliers spare their rare time for this special event, we encourage you in the spirit of fairness to bring the best of your Rieslings to this event: mature wines, rarities, large formats for example. Let us all do our best to make the first Riesling SWAG dinner an unforgettable evening for everyone.
Do I have to present an ID card at the entrance and do I have to be of a certain age?
You don't have to present an ID card at the entrance, unless we cannot be sure that you are at least 18 years old. The age requirement is 18 years since alcohol will be consumed.
How do I get to the venue by public transport and are there any parking spaces?
Please come by public transport, on foot or with a taxi. You can for example take the S1 train to Stadthausbrücke.
Each guest is expected to bring at least one bottle of Riesling. There is no upper limit as to how many bottles you may bring, but it should not be more than three. The Rieslings may come from everywhere, from Germany, Austria, Italy, Alsace, the USA or any other country. There is no minimum price for the wine you bring, but in order to make this evening an unforgettable experience, please bring the best your cellar contains. Large format bottles are welcome.
All kinds of Rieslings are welcome. But please keep in mind that the wines shall be paired with dinner. If every guest brings a Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese or Eiswein, the pairing becomes difficult. We are happy to organize Facebook groups or other communication channels to discuss the wines you want to bring to your table prior to the Riesling SWAG Dinner. Please also think about food-friendly wines such as fruity Kabinetts and Spätlesen or lighter dry Rieslings.
You share the wines you bring in particular with the other guests at your table, your winery host and the sommelier at your table. But you are encouraged to visit other tables and share your wines with guests at other tables or drink a glass at another table.
We are happy to receive wishes from groups that want to sit at the same table. Unfortunately, we cannot consider wishes to sit at a particular table with a particular winery. We will allocate seats at the various tables by way of a draw.
All wines can be deliverd at VLET in der Speicherstadt from 1 April at noon. In case you want to deliver your wines before, please contact us and we will send you an address to which you can send your wines for the dinner.
There is no dress code. But please keep in mind that the Riesling SWAG Dinner takes place in an elegant restaurant in the historic Speicherstadt of Hamburg and that all sommeliers and winery representatives have travelled a long way to make Riesling Swag a special event.
Ticket cancellations are not possible. All tickets are personalized and are not transferrable in principle. In case of important reasons (e.g. illness), we will give our best to consider your requests to transfer your ticket to someone else.
No. From the organization team, only Christoph Raffelt works in a wine related job. We do not have commercial interests in organizing Riesling SWAG. We mainly want to show that an event like the Riesling SWAG is also possible in Germany. The ticket prices are calculated in a way to cover our costs (menu, restaurant service, drinks other than wine, website design, travel costs, etc.). In case the budget is positive after the Riesling SWAG we will distribute parts of those surplus funds to the sommeliers and donate the rest for good causes.
How can I contact the organizers if I have any questions?
