A New Method for Effective Database Design
Hugo Kornelis (MVP)
Your databases may be normalized and may perform well … but is the data actually correct?
Hidden pitfalls abound even in seemingly-mature database designs. Complexity, overabstraction, and miscommunication, can create situations where data simply can’t meet expectations. In this full-day seminar, you will learn how to use a requirements-based methodology to translate you users’ real business problems into a rock-solid database design. You will learn exactly what questions to ask, how to ask them, and how to transform the answers into a fully normalized database that accurately captures all the business requirements. If you have ever experienced problems due to bad database design, attend this seminar to make sure that never happens again.
From SQL Traces to Extended Events. The next big switch.
Mladen Prajdic (MVP), Andreas Wolter (MCM)
This pre-con will give you deep insight into both of the current tracing technologies in SQL Server.
The old SQL Trace which has served us well over the past 10 or so years is on its way out because the overhead and details it produces are no longer enough to deal with today's loads.
The new Extended Events are a new lightweight tracing mechanism built directly into the SQLOS thus giving us information SQL Trace just couldn't. They were designed and built with performance in mind and it shows.
Mastering Extended Events requires learning at least one new skill: XML querying. We will show you how to do that plus things you can do with them that you simply couldn't do with SQL Trace.
This demo and info heavy pre-con will get you ready for the new way to see what's going on in your servers.
Data Analytics & BigData
Ruben Pertusa Lopez, Paco Gonzalez
This pre-conference seminar is on Business Intelligence and Big Data. It is an introduction, but not a regular introduction. During the seminar we will introduce most of Business Intelligence and Big Data objects within the Microsoft stack, but the demos will be advanced. Therefore you are welcome to sign up, if you want to discover what is in Business Intelligence and Big Data and also see how we implement real solutions for our customers using best practices. The first section covers analytics for structured data, loading the data warehouse, building the multidimensional and tabular objects, visualization and Self Service BI. The second section covers unstructured data and how to integrate Big Data with your Business Intelligence applications. Also data mining for structured and non-structure data will be shown.
Join us for a complete day of BI and Big Data.
