Date and time
Location
Online event
An adventurous exploration of art and self, combining elements of play, mindfulness and embodied practice
About this event
Now that art museums are closed to the public, we invite you, wherever you may be, to join us in a virtual adventure at exquisite art museums around the world. Combining mindfulness, embodiment and play, the session aims to foster your connection with yourself, art and other participants. Celebrated as in-person workshops in art museums in Germany and Australia, our online experience welcomes everyone with a curious and playful eye. Please consider not participating if you might be uneasy at the prospect of
- interacting with strangers in randomly-matched conversations
- being prompted to move like a sculpture dipped in honey
- experiencing more about yourself than you learn about art
Date and Time:
The session will be held on 10th June at
12-1pm PDT (San Francisco time), which corresponds with
3-4pm EDT (New York time) and 9-10pm CEST (Berlin time)
Facilitators
Michael Garbutt, Ph.D and Nico Roenpagel, Ph.D., first met one auspicious afternoon in Australia about a hundred moons ago. At that time, Michael was - and still is - teaching at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Faculty of Art & Design, while Nico was dancing his PhD at the same institution. Currently, Michael researches the embodied visual experience of art museum visitors and Nico brings compassion-based mindfulness training to companies in Berlin. Sharing a fascination for the contemplative, awakened, and unfolding nature of human experience, their prolific collaboration to date has resulted in a book, a performance, an exhibition … and now The Mindful Eye-Playful Eye Project, which includes art museum workshops, a book and an app in the making.
