WHY SHOULD YOU GO?
Pack your things! We’re off to explore a stunning UNESCO Heritage site where milky white castles shimmer in the warm sunlight and majestic peacocks proudly display their many colours to every happy hiker, as moody water buffaloes glare from a distance. Fairytale forest trails lead you past intricate flower gardens, stately fountains and then along the mighty Havel River for a hike that is the perfect blend of historic significance and stunning natural beauty.
Our adventure begins with a short ferry ride to the charming Peacock Island (Pfaueninsel). A World Heritage site, the island is well known for King Friedrich Wilhelm II’s ‘labour of love’ i.e. an 18th century white palace built for his mistress, and for the many free-roaming peacocks, to name a few.
After we have explored this magical island, we catch the ferry back to the mainland for a beautiful forest trail that runs along the mighty Havel river before returning to Wannsee town. Here we will raise a toast to a great hike at a beer garden offering a wonderful view of the Wannsee Lake.
