During our next Impact Investing Roundtable (IIST) Berlin Michael Wagemans from iPropeller will present a recent study they have published together with the King Baudoin Foundation, one of the biggest foundations in Belgium, on the state-of-play of Impact Investing for Development.

What is the talk about?

In the fall of 2018, the King Baudouin Foundation commissioned iPropeller to execute a study on the state-of-play of Impact Investing for Development. Next to profiles of the players, the study sheds light on several key-dimensions, such as motivations, investment strategy, and social impact management.

Michael Wagemans, Managing Partner of iPropeller, will share some key-findings of the study and open the discussion with reflections on the field, starting from the learnings of Belgium.

iPropeller: iPropeller is a European strategy consultancy from Brussels that works with organisations that are eager to create innovative solutions to tough social and environmental challenges. iPropeller aims to create meaningful change in three impact areas: 1) Building citizen capability to participate in a healthy and prosperous society; 2) Extending access to essential goods and services; and 3) Shifting mindsets and enabling actions for a more sustainable future. The consultancy works across for-profit businesses, non-profit organisations, public authorities, civil society actors, and social-profit enterprises. iPropeller became B Corp certified in the summer of 2018.

The King Baudouin Foundation: Established in 1976, the King Baudouin Foundation (KBF) is an actor for change and innovation, serving the public interest and increasing social cohesion in Belgium and Europe. KBF seeks to maximise its impact by strengthening the capacity of organisations and individuals. It also stimulates effective philanthropy by individuals and corporations. The Foundation’s current areas of activity are poverty and social justice, philanthropy, health, civic engagement, developing talents, democracy, European integration, heritage, sustainable development and Africa and developing countries.

Michael Wagemans: Michael joined iPropeller in 2016 as Managing Partner. He advises clients on a range of issues, including shared value, Corporate Social Responsibility, social innovation, impact measurement, and stakeholder engagement. He has more than 15 years of experience in Strategy & Innovation consulting, working together with business leaders and heads of public authorities across Europe, North-America, the Middle East, and Asia. Prior to joining iPropeller, Michael held positions of responsibility in management consulting at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Arthur D. Little. Michael holds a Ph.D. in Political Economy from the London School of Economics, UK. Michael is Professor of Practice in Sustainability at Hult International Business School (London and Dubai).

We look forward to seeing you,

Julia & the IIST Berlin Team
