The GreenCycle Academy is a workshop based on an open innovation approach that brings together creative students from many different backgrounds. During this event, you will learn and apply various methods and design thinking tools intended to generate ideas and find creative and innovative solutions for our specific challenges. Throughout these sessions, you will be supported by a team of experts and mentors from GreenCycle, in addition to an external pair of coaches. GreenCycle is the service provider for waste disposal and energy management of Kaufland, Lidl and other companies.
This is your opportunity to start your career as a climate innovator!

What are the challenges in 2018?

Challenge 1. In Europe and around the world we are generating alarming amounts of waste that is increasing on a daily basis. Better prevention and management of such waste would have considerable climate benefits and large companies are actively pursuing this agenda. But it is not only on to them, because you can help, too! Join us and develop your ideas for the branding of a worldwide provider of sustainable waste management!

How might you design a strategy to promote the brand of a global-leader in sustainable waste management?

What types of campaigns, communication channels or other ideas would you develop to improve a companies' brand?

Challenge 2. Digitalization is the buzzword of our time – and its usage and relevance is spreading rapidly! However, when it comes to the waste management sector, it still largely relies on 20th century systems and processes. How might you connect the 4,500 waste disposal companies with the 82 million waste producers (in Germany) to rescue valuable resources?

How might you develop digital solutions for a more efficient and effective waste management industry?

Join us to develop your ideas about different kinds of digital solutions, be it an app, a platform or something else.

Who can participate?

Whether you are a social scientist, an engineer or a designer – students of all study backgrounds are invited to join!

+++Please note that we cannot pay for your travel or accommodation+++

What is the timeline?

The GCA will kick-off Friday afternoon (12 Oct) with an introduction to the two challenges. Each participant is free to choose one of the two challenges prior to the formation of the teams, led by two experienced coaches. During the entire weekend, experts and coaches will be by your side as extra support. They will provide you with additional input from the areas of design thinking, co-creation, validation, business modelling and lean start-up. You and your team will then pitch your idea on Sunday afternoon in front of an expert jury.
