Description

Already in its 6th edition, the International Dialogue Platform on Forecast-based Financing (FbF) has become the major global event for meteorologists, climate scientists and humanitarian actors to work on anticipatory humanitarian assistance.

The German Federal Foreign Office, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the German Red Cross are pleased to invite you to an official side event for governments, institutional donors and private sector partners as part of the Dialogue Platform titled

Getting to know Forecast-based Financing



Note: All side event participants are invited to attend the official opening of the Dialogue Platform in the morning as well as the evening reception. The side event itself will take place from 13:30-17.30h.

13:30 – Side Event Part I: Getting to know Forecast-based Financing (FbF)

Interactive workshop for newcomers. Experts will explain the concept of FbF as part of anticipatory humanitarian assistance, present case studies from pilot countries and highlight the unique connection between climate science, data analyses and humanitarian action.


15:30 – Coffee break


16:00 – Side Event Part II: Partnership opportunities

The second part of the workshop will focus on IFRC‘s new ex-ante financing mechanism, Forecast-based Action by the DREF, and discuss opportunities for financial, technical and scientific support for FbF by the private sector.


18:00 – Evening reception




ABOUT

What is Forecast-based Financing (FbF)?

FbF is a programme that enables access to humanitarian funding for early action based on in-depth forecast information and risk analysis. The goal of FbF is to anticipate disasters, prevent or mitigate their impact, if possible, and reduce human suffering and losses.

Who should attend?

Institutional donors and CSR, Sustainability and Public Affairs Managers who want to play a more important role in tackling one of the world‘s most pressing problems: Climate change and disaster risks.
