Are you a software developer or an entrepreneur developing new applications related to TV or mobile and web video platforms?

The Social Connected TV Workshop organised by FIcontent on May 19 in Berlin invites you to exchange information and ideas about new technologies and funding opportunities for start-ups and SMEs from interactive web and TV applications and second screen solutions towards cutting-edge media experiences. Get insights into the FIcontent technologies and proof-of-concept applications. Learn more about integrating these technologies into your own solutions and applications and coaching, mentoring and funding opportunities pushing your FIcontent integrations.

The Social Connected TV platform focusses on the development and uptake of connected TV-related applications. The market success of Smart TVs, i.e. televisions connected to the Internet and services using this connection, is already leading to the creation of new applications and concepts based on the connectivity and content.

Who is the workshop aimed at?

The workshop takes place on the day before the Media Web Symposium, and is aimed at a similar audience. Any SME or developer who works with audio/video content or services, and anyone who wants to expand into these fields. If your work has any relationship with video or audio content for broadcast, this workshop is an opportunity for you to learn how to use our resources, meet the professionals, obtain information about funding opportunities and make contacts.

What can we do with the apps?

This workshop is an opportunity to check out and experiment with apps produced by partners. Do you have projects of your own in which these apps/enablers might be useful? Examine the code, talk to the creators, try out your own ideas.

What can visitors do at the workshop?

Experience and discuss the following SCTV apps, produced by FIC2 partners:

  • Audio Mining – automatically analyse audio and video with automatic speech recognition to enhance access and user experience; for use with audio-visual media/content with applications such as speech search, automatic tag cloud generation, improved SEO performance
  • Content Optimisation – automatically enrich content with metadata describing named entities like locations, places, dates, events, speakers
  • Cross-Device Resume Play – vendor-specific mappings between hardware and software in Smart TVs can result in developers having to build the same application many times. The BBC’s TAL (TV Application Layer) addresses these issues by providing a generic interface to the TV. Cross-Device Resume Play is an example of how this tool can be used in a production environment
  • Second-Screen Framework – the Second-Screen Framework allows the creation of apps for connected TVs which communicate with second screen devices. We will demonstrate the potential of the tool using applications developed in the project.
  • Examples of applications created with the HbbTV Toolkit, e.g. Social TV app and daily video app – in November 2014, RBB broadcast a 25 hour long programme covering the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. In parallel with the TV content, viewers followed social media content directly on the TV, thanks to the Social TV app created by the toolkit. RBB is currently working with toolkit partners on the creation of another app aimed at children and offering a dedicated collection of video content.
  • Various proofs-of-concept, including:
    • Interactive Football Matchthe Interactive Football Match app combines multiscreen, rich content, user generated content and social media aspects. Users can enrich content on their second screen devices and interactively share it with friends.
    • Interactive Car Advertising: this app offers additional information (i.e. recommendations, comments, links etc.) on the second screen. Content can be presented to users’ second screen devices as interactive advertising and a dedicated banner is shown on the Smart TV. The users can add comments and share with other users.
  • Discuss funding and mentoring opportunities with EuropeanPioneers representatives to find out how to boost the integration of these technologies into your own products
