Beschreibung

The school architecture of the 1960s strived to improve light and movement in classrooms. The 1990s were dedicated more to formal and contextual issues. With the turn of the century, architectural production itself came under the spotlight and the open school community experienced a renaissance. In contrast, today, urban schools are literally bursting at the seams, and as a result we appear to focus only on basic needs: a room; pre-cooked foods; the technical supervision of indoor climate; or amok warnings. The remaining architectural product is almost completely deprived of its interpretation and appropriation through use. Demands are not satisfied by human activity or communication, but above all by machines and control technology. This means that we are confronted, not only as architects, but also as parents, with the following: What should we teach and leave as an inheritance to our children? Can architectural and spatial concepts be implemented in the educational mission to serve its social responsibility? Will free spaces be regulated by progressive standardisation or is this standardisation, on the contrary, necessary in order to address urban densification?
