13.00 Doors

13:20 Welcome and Introduction
Matthijs Wouter Knol (EFM), Stephan Schindler (VRBB), Tim Rittmann (Booster Space)

13:30 A Distribution Map for Immersive Content - Liz Rosenthal (Founder of Power to the Pixel, Venice VR)
Liz Rosenthal will map out how immersive creative content is engaging and reaching audiences across international LBE (location based entertainment) and online platforms. Who are the players, where are the major locations and distribution platforms, are there “trade routes” that already have been established? Liz Rosenthal, a frequent wanderer in the realms of immersive entertainment, will point towards where and how impact and ROI will be possible. The Venice VR curator introduces you to the new world of location based virtual reality, the up to date version of out of home entertainment.

14:00 Around the World in LBE - Joanna Popper (Global Head of VR for Location Based Entertainment, HP)
In the search for new audiences and driving innovation, studios and production companies have experimented with well known franchises and original content in this emerging market. Joanna Popper is the Global Head of Virtual Reality for Location Based Entertainment at HP Inc, and was previously EVP of Media and Marketing at Singularity University and VP of Marketing at NBCUniversal. She highlights global case studies of what’s working and what’s not, and the technology that drives these compelling new media experiences.

14:30 Out of Home Entertainment – immerse yourself into LBE business - Bob Cooney (Speaker, Author, Mentor)
You can find VR in theme parks, shopping malls, cinemas or dedicated VR Arcades. Out of home entertainment using Virtual Reality is a growing business and, to this date one of few steady income sources for content creators and investors alike. How is the market set up, what kind of content is demanded and most successful, what are the overall requirements to get a foot in the business? Bob Cooney is a thought leader in this field with more than 30 years of experience. His overview will bring you up to date.

15:00 What if we were wrong? 4 years experimenting with immersive content at ARTE - Alexander Knetig (Director of Digital Department, ARTE)
Since 2014 and the launch of its first 360-Video projects, the European cultural medium ARTE has been experimenting with immersive content in different genres: interactive fiction, high-end wildlife features, experimental documentaries. Now, a huge bunch of new authors is sending us their projects, presenting narrative and formal aspects that show how much immersive media have matured during the last five years. At the same time, however, production is becoming increasingly difficult: the projects get bigger – and we already read that “VR is dead” (again…). But what if our approach has been wrong all along?

15:30 HOT DRINKS & RECREATION

16:00 Value-Added VR: Boosting Film and TV With Virtual Reality)
Breaking new ground in the way we experience story, VR is also becoming an important marketing tool for traditional media. Popular franchises and independents alike are using immersive content to attract and engage audiences by expanding or deepening their story universes. In this panel, we’ll hear how VR is being deployed to bolster and better monetize intellectual property

This IFA Industry Debate is moderated by Henry Chu (Variety)

17:00 Entering new terrain - Salar Shahna (CEO of World VR Forum)
Producer Salar Shahna will introduce you to TERRAIN, the new virtual dance experience by Lily Baldwin (director / dance performer) and Saschka Unseld (VR director), rethinking the use of 360 video in an interactive environment using the body as interface. With this case-study you gain insights on a highly innovative VR experience produced between Europe and USA.

17:20 “Kobold” and “Der Pass” - Ioulia Isserlis & Max Sacker (Co-Founders of AnotherWorld VR)
“Der Pass” (engl.: Pagan Peak) is an upcoming crime show by Wiedemann & Berg, one of the hottest TV production companies (“4 Blocks”, “Dark”) in Germany. Now it’s getting a dedicated VR experience, as shadowy as the show itself. Responsible for the immersive goosebumps is Anotherworld VR from Berlin, who successfully released the horror VR experience “Kobold”. Anotherworld VR co-founders Ioulia and Max will talk about the learnings of creating suspense in VR and how they’re going to improve on the upcoming “Der Pass” spin-off.

17:40 Submerging into virtual worlds - Stefan Kreutzer (Business Development Manager, remote control productions)
Every new technology is accompanied by extreme hype and disenchantment, trial and error and new findings. Virtual Reality has been praised as the answer to declining movie audiences, but recent development such as the end of StarVR or IMAX VR have brought disillusionment. No reason for tribulation as unaltered VR offers enormous potential for movie makers, story tellers and IP creators. There is no better medium for immersing into a narrative and expanding viewer experience than VR. The examples of Das Boot VR Escape for Hologate or WDR’s Meet The Miner show how Virtual Reality can complement traditional entertainment formats and offer unique experiences at the same time.
