Goethe-Institut Thailand and the Czech Embassy are pleased to invite film fans for the Czech Film Weekend on October 17-18, 2020 at 5 p.m. at the Goethe Saal.
Each evening the fans can enjoy famous Czech movie, one legendary, one from the latest production.
First screening will be an opportunity to commemorate famous Czech film director Mr. Jiří Menzel who unfortunately passed away this year. We are honored to present you The Closely Watched Trains, Menzel´s most famous movie, which received Oscar Award for the best foreign language movie in 1967.
Second screening will present the newest Czech film production, the Painted Bird. This movie produced in 2019 and directed by Mr. Václav Marhoul was also nominated for Oscar Award in 2019 in the category the best foreign language.

The film Closely Watched Trains was made by Jiří Menzel based on the novel of the same name by famous Czech novel writer Bohumil Hrabal. The story takes place during the Second World War, at a time when human qualities are manifested in the same way as in a time of deep peace, only they are better seen in the confrontation with the events of the war.
