Description

Summary

In this 4-hour crash course we want to pass on our knowledge as experienced documentary photographers with a passion for portraits. We will explain technical basics of photography, focusing on everything about portraits – in an easily comprehensible way and with 2 practical parts. You will get an overview of everything you should consider in a portrait session or for spontaneous street portraits. Afterwards you will exercise in groups of two, so that in the end you will also have some pictures of yourselves.
Using the knowledge from this crash course you will master spontaneous and planned portrait situations with superior ease – and simply take better photographs of people, whether they are strangers on the street you find interesting or your friends, speakers on your events or yourselves.

Participation

The regular participation fee is 79 Euro per person. We take this price because we want to live from our work, but we also try not to exclude people from particapting. If you generelly have less money available, you can also choose the reduced fee of 39 Euro. If you can afford the solidarity price of 119 Euro, you sustain the participation of others for a reduced fee in this or other workshops – thanks a lot! If you are just temporarily broke, please check out if you can lend the money somewhere or if you can participate in a later workshop. In total, 12 people can participate in this workshop.

By paying the participation fee, you register bindingly for participating in the crash course »The documentary portrait« on the chosen date: 11/11/2017 in German or 19/11/2017 in English respectively. You don't have to bring the ticket to the workshop and you can also pass it on to another person. That person has to confirm the Terms of Participation at the beginning of the workshop though.

Possible withdrawals & postponements

If you should withdraw your participation up to 7 days before the beginning of the course, you will get your participation fee back. If you withdraw later, you will also get your money back if we can find another participant who can take your place.

In case we shouldn't be able to carry out the crash course on the booked date because of illness, you have the possibility to participate on a replacement course on a date proposed by us or to get your participation fee refunded.

Bring Your Own Device

Please bring a camera (or a mobile phone with a camera function) that you want to use and/or get to know better. In the crashcourse there will be a part where we look through camera settings and an exercise where you can take portraits by yourselves. unofficial.picture can not made liable for any damages on your cameras and for finding your prior settings again. If you want that we want to look through your pictures in the second part, it is necessary that you use a digital camera and bring a transfer cable with an USB connector.

Portrait exercise

The exercise part will be about shooting portraits of each other in groups of two. You agree to photographing and being photographed by a partner that you have chosen or that has been assigned to you by drawing lots for at least 10 minutes each. You also agree to provide your partner the portraits that you have taken of them, directly or via unofficial.pictures, within a month.

Feedback

After the exercise part, we will look through resulting pictures (max. 50 per person) of as many participants possible over a projector or computer screen and give feedback. In case of a high number of participants we cannot guarantee to look through your pictures – but we promise to look at least at those of two participants.

Further use of the pictures taken

Of any pictures copied on computers owned by unofficial.pictures, we will make a selection that we send to all participants via e-mail in a small resolution. If you don't disagree with that within 7 calender days, you agree that we can use both the pictures taken of you and pictures taken by you for promoting unofficial.pictures, our workshop programme and crash courses, in print media and online. If we should later use any of the pictures, we will credit you with your name if you don't contradict to being credited.
