Event description

Description

Berlin has everything to offer – glittering high-rise façades, dreary pre-fabricated blocks of flats, famous nightclubs and other fantastic locations. This panel will deal with Berlin as a unique film setting for feature films. In so-called “Berlin Films” the city appears not only as a good backdrop but as a leading role. The Panelists will discuss filmmaking in Berlin and the importance of authentic Berlin film locations. Cinematic excerpts will illustrate the complex relationship between city and film.

Villa Aurora Artist Fellow Ute Wieland directed the recent feature film TIGER MILK which was entirely shot on location in Berlin. Nina Franoszek is an established actress in both cities, Berlin and Los Angeles. Martin Koerber curated the film series “A City Called Home - Berlin X 10” which is presented by UCLA Film & TV Archive. The Co-Directors Hajo Schaefer and Sebastian Brose are responsible for the film series “Achtung Berlin Goes LA” which is presented by the Berlin based film festival achtung berlin-new berlin film award and the Goethe Institute Los Angeles. Anke Zwirner works and lives as a film consultant in both cities, Berlin and Los Angeles. She coordinates the film series “achtung berlin goes LA”.

As part of the programming and festivities marking the “50-Year City Partnership Berlin – LA,” the Berlin-based film festival
ʺAchtung Berlin New Berlin Film Awardʺ presents in cooperation with Goethe Institut Los Angeles, the German Currents Film Festival, daredo media, Ziegler Film, and be Berlin a selection of films from the 2017 edition of the achtung berlin festival as well as the most recent film UGLY & BLIND by Tom Lass on 4 Oct, 8pm at the Berlin Lab.

Achtung Berlin – New Berlin Film Award is an annual film festival for new German cinema in Berlin. With a focus on film creation in the German capital city region, the film festival has made a distinctive mark on the film landscape as the second largest film festival in Berlin.
