Event description
Welcome to the second 30 Hour Katonah Yoga Intensive with Abbie Galvin in Zurich!

About this Event

Whether you are a teacher seeking theory or a student researching about your practice; this course will inform, inspire, and usher you on your path towards becoming a sphere of influence on and off the mat.

Katonah Yoga is a body of theory and an approach to learning that will inform not only your teaching style, but your life practices; opening your imagination. This course can be taken for the first time, or as a continuing education of the Katonah Yoga certification program.

Topics to be explored in this course:

Focus on your practice as well as the intelligence behind the practice!

You will experience at least 2 hours of asana practice daily, exploring the richness of variety of the Katonah Yoga material. This 4-days program will gradually build up from being stable, to becoming able and weaving your imagination into the practical aspects of the material.

Abbie will focus her teaching this January on the roundness of the practice. The idea of a “vinyasa” or a sequence is approached through the concept of one pose giving birth to another. You will learn how to evolve the material sequentially and intelligently.

This training integrates an advanced body lab to give you the opportunity of looking at many different bodies, understanding personal nuances and refining your body reading skills. You will learn the recipes to help stabilize, reorient or create space in a person's body.

The progression from learning to teaching takes time. Every Katonah Yoga Intensive adds up to your personal body of knowledge, offers you new insights and helps you to come through organically - into a new theoretical understanding or a new physical shape - all to broaden your personal sphere of influence and expand your toolset as a yoga practitioner or teacher.

Three floors set in practice:

• First floor: Substainitation practice. Ground of being practice.

• Second floor: Backbending practice. Art of adjusting others.

• Third floor: Pranayama. Embodied theory. Magic Square.

Intelligence of practice:

• Roundness of practice: create an organic flow of poses.

• Prop set ups: create an ideal form for everybody.

• Adjustments: seeing form and informing effectively.

• Practice as personal religion: Home practice. Restorative Yoga.

Body Lab:

• Application of the theoretical material through body readings.

• Developing vision, understanding how the details represent the whole, gaining an overview.

• Break down the complexity and set up the conditions for personal insight and evolution.

KATONAH YOGA® is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, maic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination - in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being. Framing the practice, maps of time and personal space are defined and refined. Themes using asana as origami, manipulating form for function, and developing a sense of personal measure are incorporated in Katonah Yoga practices.

Katonah Yoga is organized around three principles of esoteric dialogue: all polarities are mediated by trinity; the universe has pattern, pattern belies intelligence; by virtue of repetition there i potential for insight. Disciplined techniques are organized for revelation through revolutions.
