“There are still, and always will be, people who like reading novels. There will also always be people who like playing chess, gossiping, dancing the mambo, or eating strawberries with cream.” Ulises Carrión, The New Art of Making Books, 1975.
Book design is very similar to cooking: everyone has the same ingredients (texts, images, typefaces, paper, software, etc.), but the result is different. This time in Creative Mornings Berlin book designer Tomas Mrazauskas will speak about his approach to the field and present “Äpfel und Birnen”, the complete works of Korbinian Aigner, the book he designed recently together with Judith Schalansky.
Tomas Mrazauskas discovered his passion for book design in 2007. For several years worked as designer and production manager at a publishing house. Since 2011 he has worked on a freelance basis. He was awarded the Honorary Appreciation Award at the Best Book Design from all over the World competion (Leipzig, 2013). Currently lives in Berlin, enjoys swimming and bitter chocolate.
This event will be hosted by Jürgen Siebert and sponsored by FontShop. We will have cute theme based buttons for our attendees – sponsored by Camaloon and nice note books from Favini made of Favini Crush – paper made of oranges. Watch a video about the production here.
